Captain of the Year Cup Winner Honored in Hawaii

On July 3, 2015 InTheBite magazine took advantage of an open day between Kona, Hawaii’s Marlin Magic Lure Tournament and the World Cup/Firecracker Open to celebrate and honor the 2014 Captain of the Year Cup winner of the Hawaii Division, Capt. Rob Ellyn on the Lightspeed. A small party was attended by a mix of well-known locals and guests at Honokohau Harbor on the infamous H Dock. Also in attendance was Jason Long, the angler mostly responsible for the Rob’s success. Capt. Teddy Hoogs from the Bwana helped the crew near the end of the 2014 season and new crew member Jesse Dixon was also recognized. Unfortunately, the team primary anglers, Rick Shedore and Ron Miller, along with 2014 Lightspeed crew member Tarvis Ota were unable to attend. During the awards presentation, Capt. Rob made it clear to all in attendance that the Captain of the Year win would never have happened without the support of Lightspeed owner Rob McCarthy. Ellyn joins the ranks of past Captain of the Year award winners and will continue to represent Hawaii as the recipient of the 2014 Captain of the Year Cup.
