SUMMER FISHING!!! GIANT MARLIN TIME!!!
It still feels strange to explain the Ecuadorian summer to our foreign friends. In the rest of the world, when you say “Summer”, you expect warm temperatures, sunshine and outside activities. It turns out, here in the Equator, this is our “Fresh” weather time in which we get a little bit of a colder front but never below 19 C , added to our ever present sunshine, it turns out this is the best time to be in Ecuador.
Fishing is no strange to weather and currents. This is why during the summer we have a massive Wahoo invasion accompanied by the biggest Marlins of the year. You don’t see the big Marlin numbers like in the winter but with smaller Marlin. Now is the time of the giant Blue Marlin which we see every year turning up, in less numbers because of the colder temperatures but the sizes are definitely worth the try.
This weekend in Salinas, with water temperatures at 79F, on board our Hatteras 30’, we had a visit from a couple from Wichita. We had about 35 Wahoo in an impressive day plus the 2 Marlin strikes, one of which jumped many times and was surely over the 700 pound mark. The husband Jerry wanted to cry, he said he never saw anything bigger than 350 pounds. It felt so good that they enjoyed the trip so much. We kept trying with the 80 pound line circling the area where it got free, but it never came back.
Still, this is what we want people to experience. Something completely new and exciting…
Give it a try, who knows…..the giant Blue may be waiting for you…
Buena pesca amigos!!!
