InTheBite 2008 Captain of the Year, Capt. Travis Butters
InTheBite Magazine salutes Capt. Travis Butters, the 2008 Captain of the Year!
The sixth annual recipient of the prestigious
InTheBite, The Professionals’ Sportfishing Magazine Crews Choice Captain of the Year is Captain Travis Butters of Tavernier, FL. Butters won among three other finalists, Glenn Cameron, Ft. Pierce, FL, Ronnie Fields, Riviera Beach, FL and Butch Davis, Ocean City, MD, who in 2008 won several world class bluewater tournaments in the offshore sportfishing circuit.
With a voting system similar to the Heisman Trophy, previous recipients of the award (five captains to date) vote for their top choice. A public vote is also recorded via an online poll on InTheBite.com which Butters received a record 12,000 votes.
In 2008, Captain Travis Butters and the
Que Mas team aboard the 70′ American Custom Yachts custom sportfishing vessel won the Custom Boat Shoot Out, Harbour Island, Bahamas; Bermuda Big Game Classic and Bermuda Triple Crown Series Champion, Bermuda; MTU Legend Series overall winner; World Sailfish Championship Charity Division and placed 2
nd in the Bermuda Billfish Blast and World Blue Marlin Championship.
Captain Travis Butters is another fine example of a true professional sportfishing captain. Not only is he a contender in any event he leads his team to fish, but his colleagues respect him for his character when not on the water fishing. He joins an elite class of captains, says
InTheBite publisher Captain Dale Wills.
