In The Yard: Slane Marine brings modern to vintage

April 14, 2014 By InTheBite Editor

polepusher1Under the direction of Tom Slane since 1984, Slane Marine has been restoring and repairing older and damaged boats to bring them up to the “State of the Art” in yachting. Slane has specialized primarily in the reconstruction of Hatteras Yachts, which is a natural relationship as Tom is the son of the late Willis Slane, founder of the Hatteras Yachts company.

Slane Marine offers a wide variety of marine related products and services to the discriminating yacht owner including damage repair, propulsion system upgrades, interior refits and even complete “to the stringers” reconstruction. Although Slane  specializes in Hatteras Yachts, the company is not limited by brand, size or type of boat– from the sport runabout to hard working sportfishermen to opulent motor yachts.  For more on projects from the Slane Marine Yard, visit:

Located in High Point, North Carolina, Slane Marine provides the latest installment of In the Yard– the Pole Pusher.

Pole Pusher

Launched in November of 2010, this 1979 53′ Hatteras was redesigned to have the features and amenities of a modern sportfishing boat. She received a custom cockpit mezzanine and mezzanine seating, a custom flybridge console, custom engine air vents, and a custom half tower with a hardtop. The interior was completely redesigned with custom leather seating with storage, a low-profile galley with Amtico flooring, a custom dinette, and custom cabinets with an integrated flat-screen TV. The three heads were remodeled with new Headhunter toilet systems and Amtico flooring. The 32V electrical system was replaced with a 12V electrical system. She also received a completely redesigned engine room with a new equipment layout and an engine repower from the old Detroit 1271-TI’s (650 hp) to a pair of Cummins QSM-11’s (715 hp).
