The Bastante Tournament in pays tribute to a Texas fishing legend– the late Captain John “Johnny Bastante” Uhr. 2014 marks the tournament’s third edition. Last year, the Legacy—captained by ITB’s own Captain Kevin Deerman—brought in the largest fish in the tournament’s history, a 561 pound blue marlin. It was the Locomia, with the release of two blues that took top honors last year, bringing home a combined total of more than $55,000.
This year’s tournament takes place in Rockport, Texas from July 9-12. With a full slate of great live music, this year’s event will also be an InTheBite Cup sanctioned event. The top three captains will earn points toward the Gulf Division.
Tournament Director and founder Tami Noling was close friends with Uhr and takes great pride in putting on a world class event in his honor. The registration deadline for the tournament is June 15th. Tournament and registration information may be found at: http://www.rockporttournament.com. The fine people of Texas know how to have a good time and hospitality comes as second nature.
Last year’s tournament raised more than $420,000 cash pots—raising more than $40,000 for charity.
