TGIF Captain’s Cup Update

May 27, 2014 By InTheBite Editor

coronaTGIF Captains Cup Update

June 6, 2014:

I don’t think these panga guys care if its Friday or who is leading the Captain of the Year Cup. They are just happy to have a marlin in the boat and the thought of the Miami Heat winning the NBA finals. The International Division continues to be led by Captain Andy Helms, Team En Joy, with 650 pts.  However, looking over the this weeks sanctioned events we see a few captains poised to take over the top spot. In the Treasure Cay BBC Leg 3 Captain Russell Sinclair Wave Paver, Eddie Wheeler, Marlin Darlin and Captain Robbie Moore Fa La Me are currently holding down the top 3 places. If Moore picks up the win he will lead the International Division with 1000 points or if Wheeler can pick up the win he will lead. We also have the Cap Cana International Shootout taking place June 4-11th and we’ll have to keep on eye on that event also.

The Hawaii Division is getting ready to gear up with the Kona Kickoff June 28-29. The marlin bite is picking up and it will be exciting to see how the Hawaii tournament season goes down.

The Gulf Coast Division leader Captain Devon Potts on the Sea Mixer sits with 1000 points and several Gulf Coast Division points qualifiers are fishing the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Tournament. Approximately 53 team in the event left yesterday and are currently fishing until tomorrow afternoon in 1-2 foot sea conditions. Perfect conditions for the fleet to maximize every opportunity. Captains Johnny Dorland, Team Cotton Patch is in second with 600 points.  Next up is the New Orleans Invitational June 12-14, Venice, Louisiana.

The East Coast Division will start to get interesting with this weeks Bohicket Invitational and next weeks Big Rock Tournament. Currentlyt Captain Hunter Blount, Team Coverage, Captain Ryan Riggs Full Pull andCaptain Mike Glaesner all have 500 pts.

The Florida Division is idle until fall. Captain Wink Doerzbacher is sitting with the uncomfortable lead of 1350 pts.

That’s the Friday Cup Update-Cheers to a great safe weekend!
