How long does it take to bring a 53-foot custom boat from concept to splashed? In the case of the latest project from Vern Boatworks, RG Boatworks, and Applied Concepts– the answer may surprise you. 5 months and 1 week. The complete hull, above and below the waterline, the superstructure are the exclusive designs of Applied Concepts. RG boatworks laid out the engine and interior. The jig was delivered on December 20, 2013 and the delivery date was May 26, 2014.
The Top Notch, as she is known, is running charters out of the Virginia Beach Fishing Center. It is powered with the new Cummins 6.7 l engine at 480 go each, she can cruise at 29.7 knots and at 24.5 knots burns 26.7 gal per hour total . She holds 530 gallons of fuel and 170 gallons of water, has a 5 kw Northern Lights generator and is outfitted with Garmin electronics.
The boat was designed by RG Boatworks from the waterline up, the hull is a waveform hull from Applied concepts. Hull, house, and bridge jigs provided by Applied Concepts with their input to refine the design. Okumie Hull glassed inside and out, decks, bridge and house fiberglass over nada core.
Boat is owned by brothers Russ and Gene Kostinas, both of whom worked on construction. Gene wired and plummed the boat.
This is Russ’ latest project, having seen several other boats to fruition.
