792 New Blue Marlin Release Record

libbychampaBlue Marlin Release Records Shattered in Costa Rica

Several new records for blue marlin releases have been set by Capt. Josh Temple and the Carol Libby team. Fishing from their 60-foot Spencer/ACY custom, theyve turned in some incredible numbers from their home port of Los Suenos, Costa Rica this season, proving once again that the marlin fishing there is some of the best in the world. During one five-day span they released an incredible 122 marlin. On June 30th we arrived at our destination, lines went in the water at 9:00 a.m. and by 6 p.m. we had tallied a staggering 34 blue marlin releases out of 46 bites, Temple reported. I literally lost count of how many fish we saw–they were attacking in numbers that were quite literally uncountable. Several times throughout the day, hooked fish would be followed by several other free-swimming marlin. Too many doubleheaders to count and more triples than I can honestly remember. At one point, it took us eight minutes to catch a tripleheader of 250- to 375-pounders on baits. We managed to tag 23 blues with TBF tags that day.   On that day, we managed to break four records: the most blue marlin ever released by one boat in a single day (34); the most by a single angler in one day (27); and the most ever released by a single boat in a season (at that point it was 464). It also the most blue marlin ever tagged with TBF tags in a single day.   The season totals for the Carol Libby as of press time are: Days fished: 83 (Feb-July 2014) Raised: 1,325 Bites: 1,094 Releases: 792 TBF Tags Placed: 534 showtime
