We are on the verge of wrapping up the summer tournament action, which will decide most of the InTheBite Captain of the Year Cup winners. The Captain of the Year Cup is a way to highlight and congratulate a captain and his or her team for having a great tournament season and showcasing their achievements. Id also like to bring up a remark I recently heard from a tournament coordinator who announced that their event was sanctioned as a Captain of the Year Cup tournament. One of the captains asked, What do we win? I explained that this award is not about winning cash, it about congratulating the top captain on having a great year. As the program moves forward, more sponsors will come aboard and yes, more sponsors means more swag and nicer prizes for the winning teams but let not lose sight of the fact this is designed to be a congratulating award and not a cash prize. We have big plans for the future and always willing to discuss ideas how to improve the program. Plenty of tournament action wraps up this week and well update the Captain of the Year Cup scoring pages early next week as the tournaments finalize scores. It great to see the participating teams move up and down the leaderboards within each division too. Captain Rob Stalcup on the Trick ˜Em still leads the East Coast Division with 1,000 points for the second consecutive week but the are not fishing the White Marlin Open”well see if a team can jump ahead with a win there. The Dream Time is poised to win $1.1 million with a 78 lb white marlin landed by none other than John Bayliss. There just one day left so were sure John and the team are on pins and needles waiting for the scales to close later this evening. The Florida Division is idle this week but the Gulf Coast action is over at the Texas Legends Billfish Tournament where several top teams in the Gulf Division are fishing. Captain Jason Buck has 1,800 points and Done Deal lead for the second consecutive week after winning the Houston Big Game Club Lone Star Shootout. Time is running out as this division will wrap up in September. In the Hawaii Division it has been a year of several different captains winning tournaments and not one team dominating the season. Six captains are tied with 500 points going into the final stretch of events. If nothing changes, Capt. Chip Van Mols on Luna would win the Division on time. Finally in the International Division Capt. Rob Moore on the Fa-La-Me leads again for the second consecutive week with 1,650 points. They are currently fishing the USVI Open Atlantic Blue Marlin Tournament in St. Thomas (otherwise known as the Boy Scout). Moore in the driver seat of the International Division. Over in Mexico the Bisbees East Cape Offshore Tournament is also taking place Aug 5-9.
