The Makaira 64 creates a new revolutionary brand for the Leek family of New Jersey that have been building boats longer than any other family in the USA. John Leek the IV challenged the Applied Concepts team with creating a vessel that could be manufactured rapidly using the most advanced production techniques while utilizing custom level materials and design. The result is a vessel that can compete with custom yachts in performance but be delivered quickly and on budget. Applied Concepts’ team pulled together its 100 years plus of experience in design and production of world class yachts and after a year of development, delivered to the Leek family an epic vessel. She is tank tested to over 50 knots and ready to accept today’s largest power plants as well as more conservative configurations. The design allows for production in both Makaira 64’ and 68’ sizes with the 68’ enjoying more beam and considerably more interior space.
Both vessels are available in enclosed bridge configurations and have multiple interior layout possibilities. She is the benchmark design with speeds in excess of the 50 knot mark with the ability to use her speed in heavier seas than any other in her class.
This is one of the first large scale semi-custom Sportfish yachts in the world to utilize vacuum infusion technology from the keel up. Corecell, 3M Nidacore and infusion technologies were combined to create a seriously tough structure to handle the punishment of the world’s harshest environment. This method will not only guarantee strength, and a huge saving in weight over the competition.
Her styling sets a new standard for automotive quality styling in the sport fishing realm and yet holds true to the family’s traditions of spacious, elegant interiors. Every inch of this vessel has been planned for efficient use and because of Applied Concepts’ holistic philosophy of design each feature blends seamlessly into the next minimizing cleaning and maintenance.
