Operation Sailfish In Palm Beach

November 5, 2014 By InTheBite Editor

Operation Sailfish Returns to Kick Off the Quest for the Crest in Palm Beach, FL
On December 10th, top billfishing teams will return to Sailfish Marina for the third annual Operation Sailfish tournament. These teams will battle it out Friday, December 12th through Saturday, December 13th for a purse in excess of $500,000. Last year’s rough weather didn’t stop the teams from releasing a total of 369 sailfish! Team Miss Annie came out on top with a total of 17 releases that earned them $165,220!  Get Lit followed close behind in second with earnings of near $100,000.

It’s not all about the money at Operation Sailfish. This first leg of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series is the very first time teams will be able to accumulate points towards the most iconic achievement in competitive sailfishing – the Quest for the Crest Jacket. In order to sport the Crest Jacket, a team will have to perform at the highest degree throughout all four legs of the series earning them a top score. Team Doing It All/Hardway took home this honorable distinction in last year’s series fishing from their 35’ Contender as one of the smaller boats in the fleet.

Operation Sailfish will once again honor the men and women who have courageously served our country by donating a portion of the proceeds from the tournament to Operation Homefront, a national 501c(3) military based charity. In addition, select military heroes will be invited to participate in Take A Hero Fishing Day on Thursday, December 11th where they will spend the day sailfishing with some of the competing teams.

The hefty payout and a chance at the Crest Jacket aren’t the only incentives for these teams to give a top-notch performance. Altier Jewelers, the official jeweler of the Quest for the Crest, will design and present the top team of Operation Sailfish a set of 6 custom jewelry style dog tags to celebrate their achievement.
The kick-off party and captain’s meeting will be on December 10th at the Buccaneer, which is next door to Sailfish Marina.  The opening ceremony, including the presenting of the colors and the singing of the national anthem, will set the tone for this patriotic event.  And the party is guaranteed to be rockin’ with a live performance from the ‘Andrew Morris Band’, ice cold beer from Saltwater Brewery and delicious cocktails served up by Crown Royal, Papa’s Pilar Rum and Tito’s Vodka! Credentials are required for access to all event activities. Early entry for the tournament is $3,750 per team (plus tax) valid through November 21st.  After November 21st, registration is $4,500 per team (plus tax).  For more information on Operation Sailfish visit www.operationsailfish.com or call (954) 725-4010.  To reserve a room or slip at Sailfish Marina call the marina office at (561) 844-1724.
