2014 #3 Ranked Gulf Crew Reel Worthless led by Captain Myles Colley winning over $1 Million.

Next up Palm Beach Sailfish Classic, Fish Heads of Stuart Invitational, Pirates Cove Sailfish, Islamorada Sailfish Tournament, Operation Sailfish and Stuart Light Tackle. We are getting ready to be busy with sailfish tournament updates! Can Captain Wink Doerzbacher hang on to his lead? Stay tuned…

Myles Colley

Reel Worthless Profile:

Capt. Myles Colley, Reel Worthless

Homeport: Pensacola, Florida

Boat: 64 Viking/ CAT C-32 ACERTs/64 Sculley Reel Fuelish/CAT C-32s

Tackle: Shimano 30s, 50s and 130s on custom rods

Wins: Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic, 1st Place; Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic, 1st Place Harvest; 1,000 Total Pts.

The Reel Worthless suffered an electrical fire prior to the Biloxi tournament this year so the team transferred to the Reel Fuelish and didn’t miss a beat, winning over $1 million in tournaments in the Gulf of Mexico.

In The Spread
“We’re live baiting in the tournaments a lot these days, probably about 95 percent of the time. A few years ago if we had to move from one rig to another we would troll lures but now we pick up and run instead—more of a “run and gun” live-bait strategy than spending a lot of time trolling. We typically use Shimano 130s but we’ll use lighter tackle when trolling for smaller billfish in release tournaments too.”

Techniques

“To catch our bait we’re using diamond jigs and butterfly jigs, dropping them down in the lights real early in the morning. The rig is pretty simple: we’re using 300- to 400-pound leader and circle hooks from 13/0 to 20/0 depending on the size of the bait. Snell the hook to 30 feet of leader, bridle up the bait and that’s it. We start watching the areas we want to fish a week before, watching ROFFS and Hilton’s for good water. We also like to pick an area that has a lot of options to fish—that way if one spot doesn’t look good when we get there, we can relocate to another pretty fast without wasting a whole lot of time running.”
