Angler Scott Robins of Miami Beach aboard the Team Weez In The Keys captained by Chris Zielinski landed a large yellowfin tuna on Day 2. Scott’s big yellowfin tuna weighed in at 138.8 pounds shattering the existing Silver Sailfish Derby weight fish record (previously a 59.3 pound wahoo caught by Mike Weber aboard Petunia in 2012).

Derby Concludes Today, Big Tuna an Early Highlight

The West Palm Beach Fishing Club’s 78th annual Silver Sailfish Derby based out of the Sailfish Marina concludes today at 4 pm.   All 34 boats are fishing today.  Seas have subsided considerably compared to yesterdays conditions.  As of 11:11 am am the fleet had released 26 sails.  A total of 128 sails were released yesterday by the fleet.  Team Wrenegade is in the lead this morning and is maintaining their first day lead so far. Angler Scott Robbins aboard the Team Weez In The Keys captained by Chris Zielinski landed a large yellowfin tuna this morning in the Derby.  They were in approximately 100’ off Boynton Beach.  It took Scott an hour and half to land the big tuna on 20 pound class tackle.  The fish will likely set a new Derby record for the heaviest weight fish.  Watch the action unfold on the Derby Live scoring page, here’s the link:

  • Thursday Night Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Northeast wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Friday A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. East wind around 9 mph.
  • Friday Night A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. North wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
  • Saturday A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Breezy, with a northeast wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
  • Saturday Night A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Breezy.
