Virginia Bluefin Record Broken….Twice

Virginia State Bluefin Tuna Record Broken¦Twice On April 2nd, Robert Smith got the right bite while bluefin tuna fishing on the Bella Donna, captained by David OHalloran. Smith fought the big critter for five and a half hours on a Shimano Tiagra 80W after it nailed a ballyhoo skirted with a Joe Shute blue and white skirt. Back at the docks at the Virginia Beach Fishing Center, the tuna weighed 576 pounds and was good enough to break the existing state record. Then on April 7th, Capt. Jake Hiles ran the Ate Up with crewmembers David Toombs, Phil Casone, Charles Dawson and Chase Robinson to some productive water. Late in the day Robinson had his shot at a big one, which the team fought for five hours before finally boating the fish. The following morning the tuna weighed 606 pounds, eclipsing the state record for the second time in just a few days. See April 2nd Record Bluefin Story click here
