ALEXSEAL Covers Spencer Yachts

October 5, 2015 By InTheBite Editor

spencerA Long String of Spencer Yachts Feature ALEXSEAL®

Captain Paul Spencer was raised in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and began his first job as an offshore mate at the young age of 12. After several years as a captain running fishing charters and winning multiple tournaments, Spencer decided to turn his focus to building boats. Since that decision in 1996, Spencer Yachts has grown into a formidable icon throughout North America and as far away as Hawaii and South America.

In 2015, they have several custom sportfish under way and have proudly begun construction on their 100th hull. Situated in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Spencer Yachts is comprised of two facilities, one located in Manns Harbor where the construction process begins for each custom cold-molded hull. From there, the primed hulls are moved to Spencer’s main facility in Wanchese for completion. These facilities provide for on-site fabrication of nearly all components of the boat including all carpentry, wood work, metal fabrication as well as painting and finishing.

The facilities at Spencer Yachts may seem modest in comparison to some production boat builders and service yards, but their efficiency and expertise cannot be questioned, especially considering their completion and delivery of nearly 100 hulls in a 19 year span. Over the last decade, Spencer Yachts has developed a strong preference for ALEXSEAL for both their new builds and refit projects. Paul Spencer confirmed, “We’ve used ALEXSEAL fairing, priming and topcoat products on the majority of our boats. We couldn’t be happier with the service and overall quality of the finish.” This includes notable recent launches such as the stunning 87’ convertibles Bang-a-Rang and Betsy, the well-known 60’ Stream Weaver and the 69’ Gratitude, as well as many other elite sport fishing boats that can be found on the tournament trail.

Gratitude is of particular interest in that it is one of many different custom yachts originally built by Spencer for the same individual owner. The Gratitude fleet has included an outboard engine powered 37’ Express, a 60’ convertible, and their latest, a 69’ convertible, among other Spencer-built yachts. Customer loyalty such as this speaks volumes to the high quality build and functional layouts seen in all Spencer Yachts. As these boat names suggest, ALEXSEAL is likewise very thankful for the Gratitude and Spencer Yachts families for consistently wrapping their sport fishing dreams in the proven protection, performance and beauty of ALEXSEAL coatings. With Spencer’s 100th hull slated to be faired, primed and painted in ALEXSEAL products in 2016, everyone in the sportfish community is excited to watch this landmark build come together!
