Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Caterpillar Marine is pleased to announce the availability of the Cat® C12.9 high performance diesel engine for recreational and commercial applications. Over the past 4 years, the C12.9 completed successful reliability and durability testing in test cells and numerous high performance vessels, accumulating over 13,000 endurance hours on the water. Through its extensive testing, the C12.9 earned particularly high marks for its low noise, fast transient response and available power. Bruce Strupp, Caterpillar Marine Propulsion Solutions manager noted. The C12.9 is the successful culmination of Caterpillar 55 years of experience in the high performance marine market. Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 11.03.06 AM The electronically-controlled C12.9 is offered in two power ratings: 850 mhp at 2300 rpm and 1000 mhp at 2300 rpm. Both ratings meet EPA Tier 3, IMO II, EU Recreational Craft Directive and EU Stage IIIA regulations. In addition to high power density, the C12.9 offers high torque at low engine speeds and fast acceleration throughout the entire engine speed range due to its air system design of integrated series turbochargers and a supercharger. Both the air system and common rail fuel system designs provide numerous benefits, including quiet operation, reduced emissions and optimum engine performance. The C12.9 is ideal for high performance marine applications including yachts, fishing vessels, military vessels, governmental vessels and various other commercial high performance applications. The C12.9 is designed to be integrated with both the Cat Three60 Precision Control shaft line maneuvering and engine control solution as well as other marine industry throttle controls. At Caterpillar, we are firmly committed to delivering solutions that meet our customers high performance needs, Strupp added. The high performance specifications delivered by the C12.9 enable it to be a versatile platform for varying marine applications that depend on a reliable power solution with get up and go capabilities. Whether it is installed on a patrol boat or sport-fishing vessel, the C12.9 can exceed performance expectations and more. Watch the C12.9 hit 33 knots in a matter of seconds. Additionally, a Cat C12.9 marine propulsion engine will be on display at the Caterpillar booth at the 2015 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
