Splash Report: Hatteras GT59

September 18, 2017 By InTheBite Editor

Hatteras Yachts Announces New GT59 Convertible

New Bern, N.C. – September 15, 2017 – Hatteras/Cabo Yachts LLC (“Hatteras Yachts”), a world leader in the construction of convertible sportfishing and luxury motor yachts from 45 to 100 feet, announced the new Hatteras GT59 Convertible model at the Hatteras Club Experience event at Hatteras Yachts Headquarters in New Bern. The GT59 is the newest addition to the Hatteras GT Series of tournament-ready sportfishing yachts, which also includes the GT45X, GT54, GT63 and GT70. Scheduled to launch in 2018, the GT59 represents the next evolution of the GT Series, showcasing a new aesthetic exterior design and enhanced interior arrangements.

“We are building on the success of the Hatteras GT Series and taking it to the next level with the new GT59,” said Hatteras/CABO Yachts President and CEO Kelly Grindle. “Our customers were asking for a Hatteras GT Series Convertible in the 55- to 60-foot range to round out our line. With this model, we are offering them not only a boat that will deliver the same high level of performance and fishability as the rest of the GT Series, but also one with an updated interior and flexible lower-deck accommodation plans. It’s built for fishing, while also offering the premium fit and finish and amenities of a luxury motor yacht.

The yacht’s interior features a flush-deck salon/galley with island layout designed to facilitate social traffic flow. It is equally suited to feeding a hungry crew and staging an elegant cocktail party. Grindle added, “The open, free-flowing salon/galley arrangement is truly unique in the sportfish segment, allowing customers to feel comfortable during extended fishing trips.”

Flexible arrangements for the lower deck will let individual owners personalize the GT59 to suit their fishing and cruising styles and needs. The standard layout encompasses nearly equivalent VIP and master staterooms, plus a bunkroom that can accommodate a captain and deckhand, a couple of fishing buddies, or the grandkids. One optional layout optimizes the boat’s fishability by placing tackle storage space with workbench to starboard of the companionway stairs, while another adds a third head.

Like its GT Series siblings, the GT59 has a spacious, well-laid-out flybridge that places the captain in the optimal spot for viewing the action in the cockpit and the waters surrounding the boat. However, the new model features a new flybridge layout that places a lounge forward of the helm concealing a huge storage compartment that can be converted to a freezer.

GT Series boats are designed to deliver top speeds of over 40 knots and to cruise in the mid-30-knot range. Their proven variable-degree deadrise hull begins with knifelike entry for slicing through head seas, then gradually flattens out toward the transom, creating less drag and more lift for exhilarating speed and better fuel economy. Lifting strakes combined with the chine configuration make for a dry ride even in the rough stuff offshore. Hull tunnels, aft, help the GT models back down straight and true, while keeping the cockpit dry. The hullform also allows them to maintain cruising speed in rougher conditions than many competitor sportfishing boats.

Sportfishing captains also love the GT Series convertibles for their sportscar-like maneuverability, which results from the GT Series hullform combined with the standard differential steering system. Most of all, captains and owner/operators love the Hatteras GT Series boats for their excellent seakeeping abilities, which help them safely navigate inclement seas.

Fishability is assured by the GT Series’ large, clean, highly functional cockpits. The GT59 has a 153-square foot cockpit with full mezzanine seating. Standard fishing features include a transom door, molded-in transom live well, two insulated fish boxes with macerator, rod stowage, and a mounting plate for a fighting chair. The mezzanine incorporates a bait and tackle center with drawers, bait freezer, and a refrigerated drinks box.

The engine room and other utility spaces will embody the craftsmanship and attention to detail that are enduring Hatteras hallmarks. Taking that tradition and building on it, GT59 will be a worthy next-generation heir to the legendary Hatteras sportfishing yacht line.
