Oregon Inlet Safety Zone Enforced

WILMINGTON, N.C. ” The Coast Guard is intermittently enforcing a temporary safety zone on the navigable waters of Oregon Inlet to ensure public safety during the Herbert C. Bonner bridge construction from Jan. 29 to March 24. While activated, the safety zone will restrict vessel traffic in the vicinity of the bridge, which will be under construction. Entry of vessels or persons into this safety zone is prohibited. The temporary safety zone is intended to protect mariners, vessels and construction crews by preventing vessel traffic on the Oregon Inlet navigation channel. Boat crews from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet will enforce the safety zone in two-hour intervals during this time frame. Construction is expected to take place on 33 separate days within the time frame, and the exact times of the safety zone will be announced via broadcast notice to mariners at least 48 hours prior to enforcement. For more information about the safety zone, click here. The North Carolina Department of Transportation will also post the exact times of the safety zone here. If you have questions about this rule, please contact Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew Tyson, waterways management representative at Sector North Carolina, at 910-772-2221 or [email protected].
