Year in, year out few crews have caught more white marlin or experience more tournament success than Captain Harvey Shiflet and mate Frank Riganto on the Anticipation – a Virginia Beach-based Spencer. Here is some cockpit insight provided by Frank.
An Easy Reminder
Write the dredge deployment distance on a piece of electrical tape and put near the digital counter on your LP. This reminder allows everyone on the boat to be able to help deploy the dredge without having to ask where to stop. It can be quickly changed for different styles of fishing and makes getting set back out after a fish easy and fast.
The Anticipation Quiver
Have you ever wondered what goes into catching all of the white marlin on a top tournament finisher? The Anticipation’s arsenal includes custom white marlin rods with medium blank and soft action tip built by John Bishop of Bishop’s Fishing Supply. Reels are Shimano Talica 20 BFCs spooled with Suffix hi-vis 30lb mainline, Suffix 80lb wind-on, and 60lb fluorocarbon leader attached to a 8/0 Eagle Claw circle hook.
Chef Frank’s daily offerings on the white marlin buffet includes small/medium ballyhoo rigged with floss and a 3/8oz chin weight. Gluten-free, of course…
Hospitality Never Takes a Holiday
Frank Riganto and the Anticipation crew accommodate the InTheBite monkey with his preferred fishing beverage and a cushy bucket harness while trolling off Norfolk Canyon. Hospitality never takes a holiday on the Anticipation!
