The First-Ever Big Rock KIDS is Only a Week Away

The Big Rock Tournament Board of Directors & Staff are gearing up for an exciting week ahead featuring the first ever Big Rock Kids Billfish Tournament. After a record breaking Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in June, tournament officials are optimistic for participation in the inaugural Big Rock Kids Tournament. The tournament kicks off Wednesday, July 14 with a Captain Meeting & Pig Pickin. Due to the ongoing effects of COVID 19, tournament events will remain closed to the public. However, visitors are encouraged to attend daily weigh-ins at Big Rock Landing, or tune in via The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament Facebook Live Broadcast, streaming at 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. With Elsa passing through this week, weather forecasts show favorable fishing conditions for participants. Fishing begins on Thursday, July 15 from 8:00 AM- 2:00 PM and ends Saturday July, 17. Participants may fish two of the three available days. Big Rock Kids is the first of its kind, rewarding an additional 25 points for any billfish released by a Junior Angler (age 16 & under). Every Big Rock Kid that releases a billfish will receive a trophy. The tournament will recognize the top 10 dolphin & wahoo, and distribute participation medals. The tournament is keen on conservation and boasts a 100% release rate for all billfish. Daily weigh-ins will include dolphinfish & wahoo. The Big Rock is eager to host the International Gamefish Association (IGFA) to teach youth from the Bridge Down East, Boy Scouts of America, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain, the basic principles of fishing. The IGFA Passports to Fishing initiative is a hands-on learning approach striving to teach 100,000 kids around the world how to fish!

Big Rock Kids is presented by Kurtis Chevrolet, located off HWY 70 E. in Morehead City. The tournament would not be possible without the support from it sponsors and community. The Board of Directors is thrilled to have an additional avenue of raising funds for Eastern North Carolina Children Charities, primarily the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain which serves approximately 1,200 children.
