MONGO Offshore Wraps Up with Five Division Winners

MONGO Offshore Challenge, Oct. 6, 2021”

The 2021 MONGO Offshore Challenge has concluded, again with an impressive heavy weight leaderboard. The 132 boat fleet represented all 5 Gulf states, with more than 2,000 anglers. The teams competed for 5 months to see who could catch the largest Blue Marlin, Swordfish, Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi of the season. We took their top official weights from other approved Big game tournaments and weights from our 20 Official MONGO weigh stations throughout the Gulf coast. Late season leader board change for the MONGO swordfish division. Team Fleur De Lis” came in with only one day to spare in the 5 month Challenge to weigh in a winning MONGO 271.9 lb swordfish. Caught by Zac Taylor while on a 3 day offshore fun trip targeting White marlin, they decided to try for swords at night. This fish knocked out team “Game Plan III” and their 258 lb sword which held the leaderboard since June. C-STUDENT Capt Ken Blackman, owner Keeley Megarity, and team, weighed in a 44.6 lb MONGO Mahi during the Cajun Caynons Billfish Classic in early June. Little did they know, it would hold on the MONGO Leader board all season. Teams across the Gulf fished hard for 2 seasons to catch a qualifying Mahi, and one that would hold the leaderboard. This fish wins C- STUDENT over $61,000 for only a $500 entry fee. “QUICKTIME owner / angler Robert Burroughs, Capt Wilks Hammock and team weighed in the winning 231.1 lb MONGO tuna during the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic. They knocked out team GET REEL and their 191.6 lb fish they caught during the ORANGE BEACH BILLFISH CLASSIC. Team INTENSE is no stranger to wahoo leader boards. They weighed in their 85.3 lb winning MONGO wahoo during the KING MASTER tournament in June and it held all season! To catch a 793 lb Blue Marlin and win the MONGO, some say it takes more than JUST TIME.” It takes an owner that is passionate enough about Marlin Fishing to purchase the right equipment, and hire a top notch Captain and crew, dedicated to preparation, practice, maintenance, planning, networking, and then applying it well. It takes perfect reaction, at perfect timing, it takes answered prayers, sometimes blood, tears, and defiantly sweat, finesse, and brute force. And yes it does take TIME spent on the water looking for the opportunity to be tested at the right time and place. 2021 MONGO winners: IT JUST TAKES TIME 793 lb blue marlin FLEUR DE LIS 271 lb swordfish QUICK TIME 231 lb tuna INTENSE 85 lb wahoo C-STUDENT 44 lb mahi
