In-Sane-O Wins the First-Ever Chub Cay Classic

March 23, 2002, Fly Zone Fishing”In-Sane-O, a custom Spencer sportfisher owned by Denton  Williams with Capt. John McNamara at the helm, won the inaugural Chub Cay Classic, which concluded this past weekend at the Chub Cay Resort and Marina in the Bahamas. In-Sane-O, based in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, was named the top boat after releasing two blue marlin and a sailfish for a total of 1,100 points. Under the all-billfish release format, blue marlin scored 500 points each. White marlin would have counted for 200 points had any been caught and sailfish were worth 100 points.
Twenty-four boats competed in this initial contest, hosted by the popular Chub Cay Resort & Marina Club, located at the southern tip of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas.  A total of five blue marlin, plus 24 sailfish were released by the fleet during two days of fishing. Sea-I-Sea finished in second place (one blue and three sails), followed by Big Stick (one blue and sailfish apiece). A couple of boats scored double-headers on sailfish. Nicole Scotti, fishing aboard Gina Lisa, was named the top lady angler for the Classic. Shakedown won top wahoo honors with a 62-pound entry, while Following Seas boated the heaviest dolphin, which tipped the scales at 35.5 pounds. Im very, very happy to see the participation at the Classic, says Tournament Director Robert Fly Navarro. It good to see things opening back up, people using their boats again and enjoying the beautiful water and bounty of the Bahamas. I look forward to the next round at the Chub Cay Invitational in a couple of weeks. The 2nd Annual Chub Cay Invitational will be held April 7-9, 2022.
