Splash Report: Bayliss Boatworks’ Overtime

December 13, 2022 By InTheBite Magazine

Every boat built by Bayliss Boatworks is a truly custom project. In the case of Overtime, the newest 67’ 6’’ build to hit the water, the sportfisher is the weapon of choice for a Cabo-San-Lucas-based program. With the help of the experienced captain and owner team, Bayliss Boatworks designed a sportfishing yacht unique enough to meet the demands of conquering diverse fisheries.

Construction on Hull 28 began in August 2020 and finished in November 2022, two months ahead of schedule. Designed and constructed completely in-house, Overtime is a product of 64,141 man-hours. Attention to detail is evident everywhere you look.

The Engine Room

In addition to what has become standard on Bayliss builds (SeaKeeper stabilization, Furuno Omni sonar, Bayliss Boatworks Fresh Flow cooling system, chilled water AC system, Northern Lights generators and plenty of horsepower), Overtime is equipped for effectiveness in the varied fisheries indigenous to Cabo. In collaboration with the owner and captain, Bayliss Boatworks has created an elaborate live well circulating system that enables them to use conventional live wells as well as multiple tuna tubes. When it comes time to chase striped marlin up at Magdalena Bay, all of that disappears, and she reverts to a well-laid-out trolling sportfishing cockpit. The custom eight-hole rocket launcher with included bait tray is also interchangeable with a Release Marine full-size fighting chair.

The satin anodized tower courtesy of Palm Beach Towers is complimented with outriggers and a green stick, giving the team more diversity for their fishing endeavors. The portside peninsula flybridge is equipped with the latest electronics from Custom Marine Electronics, as well as two faux-teak helm chairs from Release Marine. A noticeable difference in comparison to Bayliss’ newer builds, Overtime features a crisp Imron Matterhorn White painted toe rail that pairs with her painted salon door and painted transom with artwork done by Everett Nautical.

Inside the Overtime

As the second Bayliss build to feature a walnut interior, the inside of Overtime is sleek and bold. The light “dawn-gray” sofas and “finesse white” headliners pop against the rich brown walnut found throughout the build. The master stateroom and tackle room feature “silver cloud” granite countertops that accent the intricate detailing in the wood grain of the custom-built walnut cabinets. The three-stateroom, two-head with day head layout provides ample bunks for long trips, as well as convenient head accessibility for day trips.

Because Overtime is designed to fish in multiple fisheries, her interior storage was built to hold most of the program’s fishing gear. Innovative tackle display and storage are in the companionway, as well as throughout the lower accommodations. The cork wall tied in with the walnut and granite combination makes the tackle room appear more like a showroom. Just across the companionway, an eye-catching floor-to-ceiling rod closet displays custom rods through a clear glass door that includes an etching of the boat logo.

Quick to Fish

Overtime boasts the new C32B engines, which reach 2,025 mhp each. These engines run quieter than their C32 predecessors at idle or trolling speeds and come with a higher power density. Her top speed is 44.5 knots, and her cruise ranges from 29-35 knots depending on rpm.

Overtime wasted no time in setting out for her first mission and is making the trek south to Cabo San Lucas, where she is fishing this winter. Bayliss Boatworks is based in Wanchese, North Carolina, and employs 110 people in their full-service new construction and boatyard facilities.
