New Year, New Gear – A Few Items to Check Out for 2023

January 23, 2023 By InTheBite Magazine

Numerous fishing gear companies have kicked off 2023 with revolutionary new products. Here are a few items of interest early on in 2023. Links to each company’s website provided in the heading.

X-series Freestanding Rocket Launchers From Release Marine

We went back to the drawing board to design this new series of Freestanding Rocket Launchers. The smaller size 4X and 6X models still have enough room for rod holders, cup holders, a bait tray and tackle drawer storage. The 8X’s six outer rod holders allow two anglers to each manage three kite baits. The additional two rod holders have been brought to the front, while two small storage trays on the aft side accompany the central bait tray. With optional pitch bait tubes, the two center rod holders also work as pitch rods. The 11X launcher patterns have always had six rod holders on the aft side of the board, which gives your arms access to the other five. For greater comfort, we also flipped the two rows to bring the six holders to the forward side closer to the angler.

Mercury Marine Introduces the Industry’s First V10 Outboards

Verado’s new V10 engines are the quietest and smoothest in their class, running 45 percent quieter than a leading competitor at cruise. In addition to NVH, these Verado’s not only work with the latest Mercury SmartCraft® technologies but will also be offered with an optional dual-mode 48V/12V alternator to seamlessly pair with Navico Group’s Fathom® e-Power System, an integrated lithium-ion auxiliary power management system. The V10 Verado outboards leverage many of the same market-leading features and technologies boaters love about the company’s popular V12, V8 and V6 platforms. The V10 supports a wide range of applications, from large saltwater center consoles to single-engine freshwater fishing boats to pontoons and smaller center consoles. Weighing only 695 pounds and with the same industry-leading 26” mount spacing as the V8 outboards, the V10 engines maximize compatibility with current boat designs. This lightweight, compact design makes them perfect for multi-engine applications or repowering vessels.

PENN Fathom II Lever Drag

The new Fathom II Lever Drag series features a one-piece frame and palm side plate, an easy-to-use center shift button, a pull-to-turn preset knob and improved cosmetics. Yet the same stainless steel main and pinion, five shielded ball bearings, and reliable gearing and dura drag remain. There are four single-speed models (10-30 sizes), seven two-speed models (10-80 sizes), including the new 80 size, two high-speed models (40 and 60) built for billfish tournament pros, and four left-handed models. The highspeed models in the 40 and 60 sizes provide anglers with an ultra-high-speed retrieve of 60” per turn and drag that is optimized between four to seven pounds at strike. The handle knobs are entirely interchangeable. The single and high-speed models have a football-style knob for quick grab-and-turn action, while the two-speed models come with the banana handle made for torque and power. $229.95 – $349.95.

VETUS Bow Pro Thrusters

The world leader in innovation and manufacture of leisure craft products is expanding its line of BOW PRO thrusters with two new models. Owners and operators of vessels between 25m and 40m (82ft to 131ft) can now experience the unique benefits of the VETUS BOW PRO thrusters, thanks to the BOW PRO Boosted 385 (BOWB385) and BOW PRO Boosted 420 (BOWB420). The new additions are suitable for 400mm (15 ¾”) tunnels and are the most powerful 48VDC compatible, fully proportional brushless thrusters available on the market. Captains and crew benefit from precision proportional control and the confidence to extensively use their thruster system when docking or maneuvering, without the fear of overuse or overheating issues. VETUS systems require little maintenance and are dependable even when pushed to their limits, giving all on board the luxury of more time on the water to chase down that next big catch.

Scania Introduces E-machine

In-house developed electric solutions draw on Scania´s long experience, knowledge and technology from electrifying on-road vehicles, which result in high system reliability and outstanding performance in a compact design. Scania Electrified Power Systems facilitate builder design, installation and maintenance. Like all its power systems, the electric components are modular and scalable, and thereby suitable for several different applications. All components work seamlessly together and are controlled with a common management system, while standard mechanical interfaces simplify integration with external components. With impeccable interaction between different components to achieve full system integration, electrifying vessels has never been smoother.
