It’s been two years since the last ICAST brought industry professionals together to get a firsthand look at the advancements in the sportfishing world. From July 20 to July 23, companies and brands showcased the latest and greatest products for both fresh and saltwater anglers. We’ve highlighted some new, innovative and just plain interesting products that were on display at this year’s event.
Visser Reels Introduces the Model S series
Visser Reels, July 17, 2021—Visser Reels is introducing the Model S series, a higher-level reel from its current number series. The reels will be available in 6 different sizes from the No. 3S to the No. 8S. The all-machined aluminum reels will be manufactured at our Seymour Connecticut location with about 60% valued content from outside the United States.
American Sportfishing Association Cancels Physical ICAST Show
American Sportfishing Association — For more than 80 years, the American Sportfishing Association has created a legacy of working hard to ensure our industry’s future. Nowhere is this more evident than at ICAST, our industry’s trade show, where lasting friendships and business partnerships have been forged and fostered.
However, given the ongoing stay-at-home orders and the desire to keep the health and safety of everyone in our recreational fishing family first in the decision-making process, ASA’s board of directors made the decision to cancel the physical ICAST Show that was scheduled for July 14-17, 2020, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
Two weeks ago, we asked for your patience as we strived to make the best business decisions we could on behalf of our exhibitors, members, staff and all our show attendees. Cancelling this year’s show was the only decision that could be made when considering everyone’s well-being and the impact the pandemic is having on the sportfishing industry and our economy.
Despite cancelling our in-person show, we are committed to keeping all of us connected as a global community this July. As the largest sportfishing industry trade show in the world, we look forward to producing ICAST 2020 Online, our version of a “virtual trade show,” that will provide a wide variety of tools and a wealth of information that you’ve come to expect from us. We will share more with you very soon!
We ask for a little more patience as we shift gears. Please allow us to reach out to each of our exhibitors to discuss their options, including a full refund if desired.
There is no doubt that we are in unchartered waters, but we are confident that we will get through this together and stronger than ever! As we always have.
From all of us at the ASA, please stay safe and stay healthy.
Glenn Hughes
President

Step Towards Kicking Plastic at Casa Vieja Lodge
July 9, 2018- MIAMI, FL- Casa Vieja Lodge is entering its third phase of the Kick Plastic Campaign pioneered by Costa del Mar. This fall, Casa Vieja Lodge will become a plastic-free campus by eliminating all single-use plastic bottles both at the lodge, and aboard their 10-boat fleet.
All anglers will receive a YETI 36oz Rambler Bottle upon arrival at Casa Vieja Lodge, their lifeline to water consumption. Two Elkay Water Fountain and Bottle Filling Stations were installed at the lodge, where clients can refill their YETI Ramblers during their stay. This water goes through a 4-stage filtration system, including a UV purification process and the solution to pure, clean drinking water at Casa Vieja Lodge.
“The largest consumption of single-use plastic water bottles is on our fleet. We average about
6 bottles a day/person. That equates to 60,000 a season just on the boats, add the consumption at the lodge and we are at 80,000 plastic bottles. That’s just wrong for the environment we rely so heavily on.” said Captain David Salazar.
Aboard the boats clients can refill their same Ramblers from the YETI Silo, a 6-gallon water cooler that keeps water cold for hours. Tried and true, anglers are able to keep their Rambler in direct Guatemalan sunlight while they are fighting billfish and return to their same ice-cold beverage.
Last season bamboo straws replaced the normal plastic straws in all beverages, which have proven deadly to many marine animal life. “Our fishery here in Guatemala is so amazing and so unique in itself that it’s our responsibility here at Casa Vieja Lodge to kick plastic even where the odds are completely against us. We really don’t see why you can’t do this in your own backyard.” said Kristen Salazar.
To get more information and inspiration on how you can make a difference visit the Casa Vieja Lodge Team at the 2018 ICAST Show in Orlando, FL July 11-13th at Booth #1611.
