Southern Pride Races On

By Dale Wills

The latest 70’ Weaver Boatworks Southern Pride—splashed August 2020—could easily be called “Rocket Ship.” Simply put, she hauls ass! InTheBite recently had the opportunity to jump aboard and go for a ride. The very first thing I noticed was how very quiet the boat was. Both underway and idling. Clearing the final marker out of the Ocean Reef Club channel in Key Largo we headed south into a brisk 20-knot wind.

When Bayliss Boatworks Delivered the 62-foot GameChanger

February 25, 2020 By InTheBite Editor

The result of 18 months and some 38,000-man hours, the GameChanger was the second installment in Bayliss’ GameBoat line. Fishing is the goal of the GameBoat line, with tackle accessibility, storage and ease of washdown included in the design.

The GameChanger incorporates extensive faux teak – including the transom, drip molding, toe rail, helm pod and salon door. The flybridge features a peninsula-style layout: the console is oriented to the port side, with seating to the starboard. Two teaser reels are nested above in the hardtop. The faux teak helm pod is a standout on the console, matching well with the two helm chairs. Ample storage is found in the console, forward brow, and starboard seating; a freshwater washdown connection can be accessed forward of the starboard bench seat.

GameChanger’s cockpit is oriented with her Bayliss Boatworks Delivers 62-foot GameChanger Harrison 41 – A Modern Sportfisher That Tips It Hat to The Classics crew’s needs in mind. The off-center salon door shifts the configuration of the cockpit mezzanine, allowing for a large ice bin, and elongated seating in the upper mezzanine areas. The lower mezzanine level lids open to reveal custom-built stainless bait boxes and storage. In the engine room companionway, there lies ample and tailored storage for heavy dredge tackle.

Custom pocket gaff storage is located in GameChanger’s starboard tackle center. GameChanger’s interior sets herself apart in our GameBoat line. Her owners utilized Bayliss Boat-works’ V.C. layout, where the upper and lower
level layout is completely customizable. The lower level is a three-stateroom/two-head layout, including the quintessential GameBoat tackle room. Beneath the forward master, the carpet lifts to reveal covert storage in the machine tunnel – a strong feature intended for additional provisioning on longer fishing trips.

Starboard of the last companionway step sits the entrance to the tackle room: two bait freezers are oriented between cabinets customized for tackle, dredge reels, and rods. Mechanically, GameChanger is equipped with a pair of MTU M96L 12V engines, each with 1920 horsepower. Her stabilization comes from one Seakeeper 16. Fully loaded, her top speed is 44 knots at 2450 rpm and 192 gallons per hour. Her cruise is an easy 37 knots with a full load, at 2,000 rpm and 142 gallons per hour.

Bayliss GameBoat 62’ “Tarheel” In Production

July 5, 2018 By InTheBite Editor

Bayliss Boatworks is building a new GameBoat, sized at 62’ and named Tarheel. This build began in March of 2018.

Tarheel features the V.2 GameBoat layout – a healthy synergy of the first two GameBoats built by Bayliss; she combines the practicality of Mama C with the custom lower level layout of GameChanger. Bayliss Boatworks’ first demo boat, she will be fished heavily on the east coast tournament circuit and will eventually wind up in Costa Rica.

Exterior features include a variety of faux teak components, including a faux teak toe rail transom and drip molding. She will have a sleek profile, hard top, and white windshield. It’s all about symmetry on Tarheel: the flybridge will have the classic center console arrangement. A center door will orient the salon, and two peninsula cabinets will be featured in the galley for refrigeration and storage.

The lower level will be comprised of a simple three stateroom/two-head layout, along with an easily accessible dayhead and tackle room, each situated just off the main companionway. Systems will include two 20 kw Northern Lights generators, an FCI 1,800 gallon per day watermaker, and a Dometic Chilled Water A/C system (now standard on all Bayliss builds).

Specifications

Length: 62’

Beam: 18’ 2”

Draft: 4’ 8”

Fuel: 1,850 gallons

Water: 300 gallons

Power: Twin MTU M96L 10V @ 1600 hp each

Stabilization: Seakeeper 9

Tarheel will deliver in summer of 2019. Bayliss Boatworks has been building custom sportfishing yachts in Wanchese since 2002. Four builds are in progress at the company’s facility in Wanchese, including a Bayliss 75’, a 78-footer named Blue View, and two 62’ GameBoats – GameChanger and Tarheel.
